The Stelvio National Park joins the European Protected Areas with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism
The Stelvio National Park continues to collect successes and important goals, such as the latest one that has just arrived!
It has been awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, the CETS, for the next five years. Together with other Italian and European parks, on 2 December the Stelvio National Park will be honoured in Brussels, as part of the new European Protected Areas that have obtained the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism. The Federation of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism is the Europarc Federation, which groups more than 600 bodies involved in the management of 400 protected areas located in the 28 countries of the European Union. It represents one of the most important bodies in tourism and the preservation of natural parks.
With the awarding of the European Charter, the parks become real laboratories of practical actions related to sustainability and care of natural places, also creating innovative projects aimed at improving tourism, which becomes more and more sustainable. The Region of Lombardy is proud and satisfied with the result obtained, taking into consideration the commitment that year after year is reserved for the protection of the environment with particular attention to the theme of the sustainability of the territories.
Development and sustainability are now the fundamental key words to invest all possible energy in a project that affects the park first and foremost, but truly concerns everyone. We are witnessing a very important natural heritage that is already in full harmony with environmental rules, proposing a careful and environmentally friendly tourism. Becoming part of a European project until 2023 represents an enormous chance for the total protection of our parks, but above all an exceptional opportunity for tourism.
Sustainable tourism in the Stelvio National Park
Specific and customised actions and strategies will be prepared for each park protected by the CETS charter, based on the park's environmental and naturalistic characteristics. The opinions and proposals of local institutions, authorities and interest groups will be taken into account. Federparchi is in charge of the actions that will be developed in the various parks, and in the Stelvio National Park, together with the European federation, has planned four well-targeted actions: a communication strategy for the Stelvio; the training of specialised and trained park guides in all park sectors; the creation of the so-called Alte Vie dello Stelvio, i.e. a network of circular paths for visiting the park; and finally, the creation of a CETS Monitoring Forum.
